Booklist Reviews
These 25 cards, decorations, and ornaments are intended to evoke a nostalgic, timeless holiday feeling; their styling is slightly retro without being of a specific era. Having four contributing designers means that there isn't just one signature style, giving the collection of projects more variety. Each item's instructions are detailed and enumerated in a step-by-step manner that makes it possible to make them look like their pictures, but the book also encourages creativity and customization to make the projects unique to each creator. Sporadic drawings illustrate a step here and there, but only a few projects are shown at more than one stage of construction. Book lovers will be happy (or cringe) to see the print-covered pages of books cut up and used as material in a few of these projects. All can be constructed with cardstock or scrapbook paper and a variety of cutting tools and adhesives. A number of projects are supported to coordinate with one another, though each works as a stand-alone. Templates are included for most of the creations. Copyright 2016 Booklist Reviews.
Library Journal Reviews
These Christmas-themed paper crafting projects feature a selection of ornaments, decorations, and cards made from upcycled books, cardstock, scrapbook paper, and standard office paper. They are easy to make and require few, if any, special supplies, relying on basic cutting, folding, and assembly. The various contributors present traditional American-style holiday decor such as snowflakes and poinsettias, as well as items from European folk traditions, including a Finnish woven star treetopper and Polish star ornament. Styles range from cheery and whimsical to minimalist and sophisticated, but with the assortment of crafting papers available, the customizable designs will fit many different tastes. VERDICT Crafters interested in adding handmade flair to their holiday decor will enjoy the choices in this collection.—Nanette Donohue, Champaign P.L., IL. Copyright 2016 Library Journal.
