Lilac girls I thoroughly enjoyed this novel. Not only informative but, very entertaining. I had some idea of the surgeries that were conducted but did not realise they were as horrific, and yet the way that they handle it in the novel is not gruesome. I will say that other parts of the novel are pretty horrible.
Must read What a beautiful story based on real life events and characters. I’ve always admired the stories set in WWII era but it was a fresh perspective from a non-Jewish victims, taking the young girls to “women exclusive” concentration camp in Ravernsburk. The book is thoroughly researched—how young healthy teenage girls were taken to the concentration camps and they were used for sulfanomide experimentation. The muscles from their legs were taken, without any painkillers, causing their bones to shrink. It was brutal and inhumane act but sad to say: true. It’s a story of courage, bravery, inhumanity, cowardice and cruelty, interweaving three female characters—a New Yorker who spends her whole collecting funds for WWII victims, a Polish girl who was used for experimentation, and a German doctor who performed this inhuman act. *FIVE STARS

Well Written Debut Novel Lilac Girls is a well-written WWII novel from debut author Martha Hall Kelly. For those who love historical fiction during this time period, this is an excellent choice. I learned a lot about the "rabbits" at Ravensbruck during the war. I also love it when novels are based on real-life people.
Lilac Girls I really enjoyed reading this book. 3 very different perspectives of women who were caught up in WWII and how their lives finally crossed. I found the book easy to read. The fact that each main character was based on predominantly on reality made it so much more meaningful. The Prologue explaining where fact met fiction was good to know.
Lilac girls Overuse of rhetorical questions to the point where it got annoying. The best part was the epilogue. Not nearly as good as The Nightingale. Also on a similar topic is Indigo Rebels, which is better than Lilac Girls, I think.
