One of the most unpredictable books I've read in a while Part Alice in Wonderland, part Douglas Adams, part Dante's Inferno - a truly remarkable book. I was never able to predict where it was going, and it left me shook for a long time afterwards. Highly recommend.
Contemporary Fiction Lasers, hovercraft, talking crabs, demons, giants crickets. Our protagonist Ben is trapped in a world of another person’s making and it’s quite bizarre. This book stretches the bounds of contemporary fiction and brings us a work that’s part fairy tale, part fever dream and part video game. Surreal fantasy meets working class frustration that fans of authors like Haruki Murakami and Chuck Pahlaniuk will enjoy this book and it’s many flights of pure imagination. It comes with a message but it’s more subtle than the sometimes intense imagery.
Modern fairy tale. What if a modern novel veered off with seemingly random, magical events like from the old fairy tales? The Hike is like that. Thoroughly enjoyable.
Weird, and fun An excellent and imaginative - and very eccentric - adventure!
