Reading suggestion If you like Neil Gaiman's sense of the fantastic, try reading Terry Pratchett. They have a similar sense of humour although personally, I think that Pratchett tends to be funnier.
Not what I expected I was expecting something different. Maybe something like a cross of writers like Tom Robbins, Christopher Moore with a dash of Stephen King. It was nothing like that. The novel had some good moments but in general I was disappointed. I’m sure Mr Gaiman is a good writer but not the kind I enjoy. I probably will not read another of his books.
If you like this book Check out Douglas Adams's (of The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy series fame)The Long Dark Tea-time of the Soul. Adams explores the similar idea that ancient gods exist in modern times. Also, that these gods can be weakened by the diminishing knowledge of their existence. However, Adams brings humor, but no less depth to his version.
Amazing read Right from the start, Gaiman has you drawn into his story of Shadow, a guy leaving prison only to find out the life he thought was waiting for him is shattered. What follows is a modern tale with the old gods from all different cultures in a war against the new gods made of things we worship now. Shadow is unsure why he is drawn in until everything slowly comes together and Gaiman ties it all together. As usual, Gaiman is a wonderful storyteller and worth reading every page you can get your hands on.
AMAZING! This was the first Gaiman I read and I have been hooked ever since. This book pulls you in from the beginning and you can't put it down until its done. Make sure you have some time as you wont want to stop once you get started. I STRONGLY recommend.
