Interesting premise I thought the premise of having the super-conservative Christians as the power group in this dystopian novel was interesting. Margaret Atwood did a good job (as she always does) of painting a world that breathes. I was also surprised at how quickly I tore through this novel. It's not a heavy read, and would be perfect for lounging by the pool or at the beach.
great! I especially liked reading this dystopian novel from a feminist (female protagonist) voice. The Gileadean culture not only held my constant attention, but the reaslistic events, as well as teh anthropoogical connections made me further enjoy this memoir from a tale that depicted women like slaves and property and lost out on viewing each woman's unique contribution to society. The ending is especially unexpectedand surprising. If you love scifi and are lookign for a change, try this.
Sociological sci fi Great sociological science fiction about a repressed, controlled society in which women have no rights, but are like property. It's creepy how it came about. The style is a little too flowery and fragmented for my taste, and the ending was somewhat unsatisfying, but overall very clever and frightening.
Frightening! If some had their way, this very well could be the future. Oh my!
Haunting Although not all together original in her ideas, Margaret Atwood put together an easy to read and captivating story that it difficult to put down. Some reviewers have called this a feminist novel but I don't really see it. It does have some racy moments but those elements make it more interesting.
