Adult Summer Reading Good read. Howerver, story "stopped" when recording uninteresting sidebar events.
Amazing true story The amazing true story of a Polish man and wife who during World War II hid a great number of people inside their zoo, saving them from the Nazis.
Enjoyable I really enjoyed reading "The Zookeeper's Wife" but I would say the only downfall would be that the descriptions of EVERYTHING got to be too much. I understand the author probably wanted the reader to be able to visualize but I think it went too far and even though it is an excellent book that I would recommend to others, I often found myself getting bored or scanning rather than reading the details.
Great Story, New Perspective I read this book for a library bookclub.I thought I would dread reading it, since it was about the Holocaust, but it was told in such a new way that I really enjoyed it. I've read a lot of other novels and non-fiction about this subject and am always so horrified by the lack of humanity that occured in our history. However, this book brought to light a new perspective, not just about how things other than people, like animals and countrysides were affected by the war and Holocaust, but how even among all the devestation the beauty of humanity did live on in some. Atonina is a hero of mine, I think she was incredible in the face of such horror and uncertainty. This is worth reading.
The Zoo Heroes Even though it reads like a novel, the book is based on a very thorough research of the lives of Jan and Antonina Zabinski. If you want to read a good book about Warsaw during WW2 but don't want to read a history book, this will be a great read.
