The Couple Next Door / Shari Lapena This book is a really fast psychological thriller.
My rating is really a 3.5 but this is Shari Lapena's first book so she gets an extra star. Way to go Shari, you did an amazing job.
What I found lacking in this book was the editors influence. I agree you have to keep the reader up on all the little points but really we, the readers, don't need to be throttled again and again reminding us of each of every little issue. Secondly, as a reader, what happened to Graham? He left on a business trip and dropped out of sight.
This book had you guessing from the get go. My first conclusion on what happened early on was correct and I continued reading to find out how it all played out. An excellent job and I look forward to reading other books by Shari Lapena.
A slow-paced at the beginning!!! It started slow but in the middle of the book twists started to happen. Very good book I recommend this book.
Riveting! This book starts with a bang and never lets up! Great mystery.
The Couple Next Door I loved this book, it is up there with Gone Girl and The Girl on the Train. I read it in one afternoon. It was a great thriller, I figured out some of it, but did not see the twist at the end. this would make a fabulous movie. For anyone who likes mysteries I would highly recommend this book.
A fast-paced, twist-filled read. (Staff Review) 4.5 STARS - This book is a fast-paced, twist-filled thriller that had me repeatedly questioning the identity of the culprit. Lapena includes the points of view of a few of her characters which gives readers brief glimpses into their personalities, insecurities, fears and motivations. She then slowly unveils different aspects of these characters and the secrets they've been hiding that will cause readers to question if their earlier predictions were correct. What really happened? Who is lying? No one is as they seem and with twists sprinkled liberally throughout I was eager to find out the identity of the culprit.
The only criticisms that I'd have for this book is that some of the characters could have had more depth, some of their actions/responses were questionably believable and the ending felt a little expected (I think I was expecting one big, final twist). But overall I quite enjoyed being along for this suspenseful ride.
The Couple Next Door is a very impressive and well thought out psychological thriller. It is a highly entertaining, hard-to-put down, 'nothing-is-getting-done-until-I-know-whodunnit' kind of read. Highly recommended., Laurie P, Waterloo Public Library
